These situations can escalate and even in instances in which no documented crimes are committed, a kid can end up with a disorderly conduct charge simply for challenging the authority of a law enforcement officer. At every school, there are always the kids who act out and show disrespect for authority. ![]() Juveniles are especially susceptible to receiving a disorderly conduct charge because many Florida schools have police officers on campus at all times. As defined by Florida Statute 877.03, disorderly conduct is committed when an individual “commits such acts as are of a nature to corrupt the public morals, or outrage the sense of public decency, or affect the peace and quiet of persons who may witness them, or engages in brawling or fighting, or engages in such conduct as to constitute a breach of the peace or disorderly conduct, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree.”Įspecially in juvenile cases, officers will charge noncompliant people in a multitude of scenarios with disorderly conduct even when no specific crime is committed. On the flip side, charges like assault, disturbing the peace, or disorderly conduct are vague charges that imply a wide range of potential circumstances that lead up to that charge. DUI, possession of marijuana, or murder are very straightforward charges with a very specific meaning. There are a few legal charges that are not exactly crystal clear in their implications as to exactly what crime was committed.
